Copyright Research

When you record a project, someone has to do the dirty work.

Sorting out songwriters, publishers and currently copyright holders can be a huge job. Similar song titles can confuse the issue as can multiple copyright transfers. I’ve spent some time getting familiar with copyright law and found out the most effective methods of online research.

I can do the work for you. I perform online copyright research for folks who are recording a CD and need to pay their royalties, searching the databases of the U.S. Copyright Office, BMI, ASCAP, SESAC, The Harry Fox Agency, Integrated Copyright Group and others to determine who they owe royalties to. Royalties can be paid directly online in most cases and I can make the transaction on your behalf.

As of January 1, 2006, the statutory royalty rate is 9.1¢ for recordings five minutes or less, or 1.75¢ per minute of playing time for songs over five minutes, rounded up to the nearest minute.

My fee is $20 per song.
